Give women their flowers, today and everyday 💐
In honor of International Women’s Day, these flowers are dedicated to women stylists we admire, who’s client roster is anything but ordinary. The creativity and talent displayed in their work, continues to captivate us look, after look, after look.
And the bouquets go to...
Ambrose is an award-winning creative director, costume designer, and stylist who’s got serious skin in the game, having begun her career over 25 years ago. Her portfolio spans across many arenas, from her work with legends including Missy Elliot and Diddy in the 90s. Can’t Stand the Rain? Us either, but we have Ambrose to thank for the costumes in Missy’s iconic video.
In 2014, Ambrose went ‘on the run’ with power couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z, as the costume designer for the On the Run II tour. What we love most about June is her eccentric personality, as shown on TV and social media. Who remembers her style segments on The Oprah Winfrey Show and The View? Or her IG segment with her daughter, Summer Hope Chamblin, that got us through quarantine? In October 2020, Puma announced Ambrose as their new creative director. We can’t wait to see how she elevates the brand.
Misa Hylton first made a name for herself in the early 90s styling artists such as Lil’ Kim, Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifiah and so many more as her canvases. Remember the music video where Lil’ Kim rocked all those colorful wigs with monochrome looks to match? The one that thousands of people put their spin on every Halloween? Yup, that was Hylton!
When she isn't pioneering and pushing fashion limits, she is empowering and teaching her craft to others with her courses at the Misa Hylton Fashion Academy in New York City. Hylton is also a global creative partner for luxury brand MCM.
Known for her out-of-the-box and progressive fashion looks, Karla Welch has been named one of the most powerful stylists by The Hollywood Reporter and The New York Times. Her client list includes our fave,Tracee Ellis Ross, as well as Sarah Paulson, and Justin Beiber (just to name drop a few).
Welch is the creator of Wishi, an app which connects people with style experts to help them shop online while using pieces already in their closet to create looks. Talk about innovation?!
Zerina Akers began her career as an intern at W Magazine and has been making her dreams a reality ever since. She currently curates the style of Queen Bey and dynamic duo Chloe and Halle. We’re always anticipating an Instagram editorial from Beyoncé. We can thank Akers for the looks.
Our jaws hit the floor over the summer when Beyoncé’s visual album Black is King was released. Akers was behind the looks we loved so much from concept to completion. From the patterns, embellishments, and fabrics, the extravagant costumes served a major role in the production.
Akers is also the founder of Black Owned Everything, an online marketplace for black entrepreneurs.
